Functional Medicine seeks to treat the whole person — body, mind, & spirit — to promote health and wellness. Functional medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease using a systems-based approach to identify and correct imbalances in the body and initiate healing. If you're looking for an alternative doctor near you, we can help. Dr. Jamie specializes in holistic medicine, where she aims to provide health care services for your entire being. This includes the body, mind, and soul.
Conventional medicine excels at addressing acute and urgent medical conditions, effectively identifying the body part that has been injured and quickly administering to it. For acute traumas like a broken bone or a heart attack, conventional medicine is the preferred medical system. However, in the treatment of chronic illnesses like fatigue, digestive upset, hormone imbalance, anxiety, headaches, etc., conventional medicine health care approaches fail. Functional medicine differs from conventional medicine in the fundamental philosophy that guides our approach to chronic symptoms. Functional medicine looks for underlying cause and long-lasting healing of the underlying cause; conventional medicine looks at the symptom and prescription drug match to shut down those symptoms.
Functional Medicine practitioners like Dr. Jamie believe ailments are best resolved by addressing the root causes and imbalances of one’s life, whether that be emotional stress, inflammatory foods, toxins, hidden infections, or lack of natural sunlight and rest. Dr. Jamie helps guide the healing process with the belief that the body has been wondrously designed by God to be incredibly resilient, thrive, and innately heal itself. Using holistic medicine, Dr. Jamie partners with her patients to remove the obstacles to healing, nourish their bodies and establish the right external and internal environment for their bodies to truly heal.
This depends entirely on your unique health history, conditions, and goals. Dr. Jamie will recommend the tests that will provide the most relevant and helpful information in determining your root issues and imbalances. Dr. Jamie carefully explains the purpose and benefits of each health care test, and will always help you to make the most informed decision.
No, that won’t be necessary. All of the labs that Dr. Jamie uses are home test kits requiring either urine, stool, or saliva sample. The IgG Food Sensitivity Test requires a blood sample, which you can do at home with a simple blood prick, much like how someone with diabetes can test for their blood sugar level at home.
Yes, of course. It is highly recommended that you schedule a health care consultation with Dr. Jamie both before doing any lab work (so she can help you select the tests most relevant to your health concerns) and after receiving your lab results (so she can correctly and thoroughly interpret your results and create a personalized treatment plan for you).
We typically recommend 4-6 weeks after starting on your personalized treatment plan, then after that every 2 months. Again, everyone’s health history, symptoms, diets, and lifestyles vary, so these time frames are generalities. Some patients have seen dramatic healing within just 6 weeks and then go on a maintenance program in which they see Dr. Jamie just twice a year for “check-ins.” Others with more complex health issues may see Dr. Jamie every 2 months for a year or more. if you're looking for an alternative doctor near you, Dr. Jamie can help!
